Just below the Acer Aspire 5542G's speaker grill and above the keyboard you have a horizontal array of shortcut buttons for Wireless LAN, Bluetooth, and Backup, followed by the indicator lights for hard disk activity, and key states (Num Lock, Caps lock etc).

The keyboard of Acer Aspire 5542G gives easy access to various system functions via the Function key combinations. For eg: you can put the laptop on sleep by pressing Fn+F4 combination. Due to the presence of the numeric keypad on the right side, the main character keys are slightly aligned along the left side than normal. This will cause slight confusion when you start using it, but you will get used to it in no time.  I also found that the arrow keys are responsive to gentle touch only if you push at the exact center, which is not an optimal response. Overall the keyboard feels good and sturdy.
