In this chapter, we will start modeling the female model / character's leg.

| Sculpting the female human model / character's leg in 3D Studio MAX (
3ds max ) |
Create a new Scene and save it as chapter-12.4-save-01.max . Now lets start by creating the outline profile of the leg in 3D Studio MAX ( 3ds max ). Draw the profile shown to the left in the 'Front' viewport using the Line tool. This is the cross-sectional shape of the model / character's leg, starting at the hip. |
In the Left viewport, slightly rotate the profile as shown, so that it fits perfectly into the slanting structure of the hip in our female model / character's body.
The rest of the modeling is very similar to the process we have done while modeling the model / character's arm in 3D Studio MAX ( 3ds max ). Duplicate the circular segment of the profile (in the segment mode in modify panel) and move it down. Rotate it so that it is almost horizontally flat with respect to the grid plane in 3D Studio MAX ( 3ds max ).
Similarly duplicate and move circular segments along the length of the model / character's leg, so that finally we have a total of five circular segments. Please note that the circles should get smaller as it goes down.
Now duplicate the fifth circular segment (bottom most one in the previous figure) and rotate it so that it represents the model / character's leg's ankle. Refer the figure and modify it's vertices to get a similar deformed shape in 3D Studio MAX ( 3ds max ).
Similarly, duplicate that ankle segment and move forward till the model / character's leg is complete as shown in the figure.

Don't forget to save the scene. We will refine the leg furthur
in the next page of this tutorial. |
