| Refining the body shape in 3D Studio MAX ( 3ds max) |
| We will be refining the model that we created in the previous page. If you don't have a local copy with you, please download it here |

Let's fine tune the shape of the female model's / character's body in 3D Studio MAX ( 3ds max ). First of all, lets trim her waist a little. Select the vertices near the waist line and pull it out so as to give it a curved feel. Also adjust the distance between those vertices to make the region look thin. Now select the vertices near the hip of the model / character and pull it out. Also make the shape from the hip to the groin slanting, so that we can attach legs later here.
Let's now concentrate on the shoulders of the model / character , Pull it out and make it look thinner. During the whole process of modeling, you should have an idea of how a human body would look. Compare it with the results.

The next step is to add the most distinguishing features of a female body. Before we move furthur, we need more vertices in the body of our model / character to play around with. Look closely at the figure given below (left one). You can see that one whole vertical row of vertices have been added, along the center of the figure. You also refine your model / character, so that it has vertices along a line spanning from the top to the bottom, both in the front and back sides. After adding those vertices, connect them using 'Create Line' as shown in the figure below (right one).

This newly added vertices along the center of the body of the model / character will give you more room for refinements to the shape of our female model / character. Now fine tune the newly placed vertices, so that the female model / character gets a more curved shape. Refer the figure given.
Don't forget to make the newly added vertices 'smooth'.

Add one more vertical set of vertices just like the one set you created in the previous step. Connect these vertices also along the whole span of the profile, using the 'Create Line' tool. Move the vertices so that the two newly added vertical vertex sets have ample spacing between them.
Comparing this figure with the one above, you can see that the features of the neck, shoulder and stomach of the model / character have been made more pronounced. Move the vertices to reflect these changes.

Save the scene as chapter-12.2-save-02.max. Let's add more features to our female model's / character's body in the next page of this tutorial.
