| Animating
the Duck in 3D
Studio MAX ( 3ds max ) - Tutorial
/ Lesson |
Here
we are going to
make the duck swing
forward and backward
during the entire
time range of the
3D Studio MAX (
3ds max ) scene.
Click on the duck
to select it and
go to the Hierarchy
panel in
3D Studio MAX (
3ds max ). Depress
the Affect
Pivot Only
button so that we
can change the pivot
of the duck. Using
the Move
tool, move
the pivot point
to the place where
the duck's base
touches the table.
Now click on the
Affect Pivot
Only button
again to disable
it. |
|
Now move the
time slider to
frame 0. Using
the Rotate
tool,
swing the duck
backwards slightly
in the left
viewport in 3D
Studio MAX ( 3ds
max ). Now Right-Click
over the time
slider,
and in the dialog
box that appears
click OK.
This creates a
keyframe. Now
move the time
slider to
frame 10.
Using the rotate
tool
swing the duck
forward,
slightly. Right
click
on the time
slider
and click OK
to create a keyframe.
Now we have defined
the backward swing
position and the
forward swing
position in 3D
Studio MAX ( 3ds
max ). But for
the animation
to repeat over
the entire time
range, we need
to make it a cycle.
For that, move
the time
slider
to frame
20. Instead
of defining the
rotation manually,
let's copy the
rotation of the
duck from frame
0 to
the 20th
frame so that
it completes a
whole cycle (backward-forward-backward....).
|
|
|
In order to do that,
with the time slider on
frame 20,
Right click
on the time slider, and
in the dialog box that
appears, enter the Source
Time as 0
(keep the Destination
Time as 20
itself). Since we need
to copy the rotation alone,
uncheck all the
checkboxes except Rotation
and click OK.
This copies the rotation
keyframe from frame 0
to frame 20.
For repeating the animation
cycle, open the
track view. Make
sure that the Duck
is selected in the scene.
In the track view,
select Y Rotation
on the left pane. Click
on the Parameter-Curve-Out
of range types
from the Track view's
toolbar and choose Loop
as we did earlier and
click OK.
This repeats the swinging
motion over the entire
time range.

| Animating
the Camera
in 3D Studio MAX ( 3ds max
) - Tutorial / Lesson |
The camera animation
in 3D Studio MAX
( 3ds max ) is
going to be simple
as it always is.
Using the Select
by Name
tool, select the
Camera01
from the scene.
Drag the time
slider
to frame
0. Turn
the Auto
Key button
on. Using the
Dolly, Truck and
Orbit tools in
3D Studio MAX
( 3ds max ) get
a camera view
from an angle
very close to
the fireplace
, similar to the
one shown in the
figure. Remember
that you need
not position the
camera exactly
as shown
Now move the
time slider to
frame
25 and
using the camera
tools, get a view
similar to the
one shown in the
figure. Since
the Auto Key mode
is turned on in
3D Studio MAX
( 3ds max ), all
these camera movements
are getting keyed
at the respective
frames.
Now move the
time slider to
frame
50 and
position the camera
so that it looks
at the fireplace
over the duck,
the table and
the vase.
Finally move
the time slider
to frame
100 and
position the camera
near the top edge
of the room so
that it captures
a view that covers
the whole room
including the
door.
Make sure that
the camera view
in 3D Studio MAX
( 3ds max ) does
not get obstructed
by the walls during
the movement.
Render the 3D
Studio MAX ( 3ds
max ) scene by
clicking on Rendering
> Render
from the menu
bar. In the Render
dialog box, choose
the Time
output
as Active
time segment 0
to 100.
Set the Output
size
of your choice.
In the Render
output section,
click on the Files,
button and from
the file browser
choose the filename
with which the
animation has
to be created.
Choose the file
type
as AVI.
Choose any codec
you like. Make
sure that the
camera
viewport (Camera01)
is the active
one and click
Render.
Once the 3D Studio
MAX ( 3ds max
) rendering process
gets completed,
you can play the
file using any
media player.
