Does God really exist?

This is a really perplexing question that would put even the sharpest minds into thought for a while. Due to the same reason, I am not trying to give you any absolute answers for this question through this little article. I’m only trying to express a few of my ideas. You may be able to agree with it completely, partially, or not at all. The question of whether you agree with me or not doesn’t matter much. What matters is whether after reading this, you start thinking for a while before you judge and search for a while before you negate.

The theory of atheism:

Since I had been an atheist for a pretty long time, I believe that I can talk fairly well about the topic with quite a bit of authenticity. For an atheist, life as a whole is nothing but a coincidence – or a matter of chance.  Almost everything. Period. The universe, the earth, the life on it , everything. For an atheist there exists no supreme power that governs or controls these entities, though some atheists do  consider nature as a sub set of what others call by the name, God.

An atheist’s thoughts and beliefs broadly centers on the theory of big bang and evolution. It says that everything started out with a big explosion and thus formed the celestial bodies and on our little earth slowly out of chemical reactions, life evolved as amino acids and then into cells and then into small micro organisms and like that up to the gigantic blue whales. The theory of Natural selection completes their story by explaining how different species evolved with time.

Where it all fails:

Nothing much happens out of chance. I don’t think we need to discuss about the mysteries of universe or the intricacies involved in the makeup of humans, to justify the statement. Let’s take the case of a simple mechanical wrist watch. You dis-assemble the whole watch into small gears and parts. Now you put it in a pretty big barrel and shake it vigorously. How many million years do you think will it take to cause all those gears to put themselves together and get back into the shape of a watch?

If you ask a mathematician, he might estimate the probability in terms of numbers and figures, but I can say that the probability will turn out to nothing but that of impossible. Because the simple structure of a watch and its mechanism to function had been a man’s creation, and it can’t just take back its form out of coincidence.

Not convinced?

Consider both your palms: Open up both your palms in front of you. Take a look at the right one. And then the left. Does one look like a screw driver and the other like a sledge hammer? No. They look exactly symmetric.  Think about how your started your life in your mother’s womb? Just as a single cell. Then you multiplied and grew into a whole marvellous being. Your each cell’s growth information should have been stored in that single DNA at the time of your conception. Just imagine how complex the process had been from one cell to the whole you. The single cell started dividing itself until you became an intelligent being with the most complex organ structure and with a brain whose circuit makeup we are still finding difficult to comprehend. Can you believe all this happened from a micro organism out of coincidence and chance, over billions of years?
Being a software engineer, I sometimes relate things in programming perspective. Do you think you can create a random program generator which tries every combination of programming constructs and over a period of time, it develops a program which functions as a fully fledged Linux Operating system? I believe not. An initiator or controller is always an inevitable part of creation.

Why logic fails?

Logic is limited by the brain’s capabilities. We can seldom think beyond the sophistication, that our brain has been bestowed with. I believe that the reason why we are still perplexed by the circuitry of our brain, is the simple reason that it is the same brain we are using to unveil its mystery. We would obviously need a better instrument for the purpose.
Our thought process is governed by the physics of this world and its limits. We compare everything to the laws that we got accustomed to, here. Hence our logic and rational thinking has already got biased by our experience on the planet. The rational and logical thoughts that we now consider fit for everything, might turn out to be the odd operands in the real big equation.
Even our imagination is often bound within what we can see and sense. Suppose, if someone asks you to suggest a completely unique sensory system, I can bet that you will find it extremely difficult to imagine something other than the combination of the senses you have met or seen or heard about so far. Even when an artist draws an out-of-this world creature, he ends up drawing things, that has a head, eye and the like.. In short we are not creating much, but replicating what we have met so far. (An aircraft is the replication of a bird, a computer is nothing but an attempt to replicate a human itself)
